With the approach of presidential elections in Iran, the Iranian government is once again reining in free speech and free press. Several independent journalists have been arrested in recent weeks on trumped up charges of being connected to or controlled by BBC. Some have been released on bail. Click here to take action and write to Iranian officials calling for the freedom of the remaining imprisoned journalists.
The following journalists remain imprisoned: Nasrin Takhayori, Sasan Aghaei, Akbar Montajebi, Poorya Alami, Pezhman Mousavi, Emili Amraei, Soleyman Mohammadi, Narges Joodaki, Saba Azarpeik, Keivan Mehregan, Hossein Yaghchi, Reyhaneh Tabatabaei, Milad Fadaei Asl.
They have thus far been denied the right to meet with legal counsel or with their family members.
This is the culmination of the government’s targeting of the independent press over the last several years. Dozens of journalists and their family members have been harassed, detained, and interrogated. Some have been held in solitary confinement. Those who have been released have been banned from reporting on certain subjects or had smear campaigns targeted against them.
Act now to call for their release!
Donations to the International Committee are greatly appreciated!
